Need a Minyan? / Help Make a Minyan?
Do you ever need to say Kaddish, and there aren’t enough people there in the evening, and you’d like to send one quick message out to see if someone nearby can pop over?
Or do you live within 10 minutes of Etz Chayim, or the Charleston Office, or Kol Emeth on Manuela, and you might be willing to drop whatever you’re doing at 7:45pm one evening and come right over, if you received a message saying people are needed to make a minyan?
Do you have the messaging app WhatsApp on your smartphone (either Android or iPhone), or are you willing to get it? (It’s free.)
We’ve just started an experimental program with the evening minyans, and it appears to be helping. Please consider joining in. It’s free, it’s easy, it has the potential to be a great help to people who are saying Kaddish, and only a tiny bit disruptive to your evening if you’re currently one of the fortunate people not saying Kaddish.
WhatsApp is a free messaging app that works on all smartphones. It was developed in Israel.
If you have joined the group, and you live within 10 minutes of the locations of the Evening Minyan: at 7:45pm, Sunday through Thursday, you may get a WhatsApp message if we DON’T have enough for a minyan. If you can’t make it, you just ignore the message. If you CAN make it, you respond with “on my way, 1 person” or “2 people on our way”, etc. Once there are 10 people in the room, a message will go out, “We have a minyan.”
If you have joined the group, and you are at the minyan: On nights when you are short a minyan, you can use WhatsApp to send out a request saying you need a minyan.
For more information, or to be added to the group, email the Kol Emeth office, and they will forward it to the volunteers who are managing the group.
